After long speculation, Uganda government and AU yesterday confirmed that they had deployed more troops in Somalia, something that has damaged the mediation process between the government and the resistance groups. According to statement issues by Ugandan army and even an interview by AU envoy with BBC, Uganda deployed 800 more soldiers in Mogadishu in recent days, making the number of AMISOM more than 4000.
The troops were ferried by Algerian army planes and financed by UK as promised; President Sharif Sheik Ahmed was also reported to be present at a function held for their farewell from Uganda.
The latest development tightened the screws on the pressing issue of mediation between the government and the opposing resistance Islam groups.
This came after the foreign minister recently urged UN Security Council to send UN troops to Somalia, causing outrage.
Though Al-Shabab and Xizbul Islam did not issue any statement yet, but it’s understood they will go ahead with their original plan of using force to chase the infidels___ a religious obligation.
The Somalia’s feuding sides are no where nearby a settlement paving the way for other years of bloodshed conflict, foreign intervention is to blame.
